Empedrado Reservoir

Visiting the Empedrado Reservoir is a chance to discover how history and progress come together to bring new life to Maule’s coastal dryland.

Developed in recent years by the Ministry of Public Works and the local community, the project transformed land that depended entirely on rainfall into fertile fields with secure irrigation. Thanks to this infrastructure, more than 100 small farmers can irrigate over 250 hectares, diversify crops and secure their production—something that would have been unthinkable decades ago.

Today, walking around the reservoir means appreciating the scale of infrastructure that is key to water security and family farming. Surrounded by hills, streams and green landscapes, it is also a place for walks, photographs and understanding how water continues to sustain rural life.
